One-day Vacay
I love roadtrips. I love knowing that I’m not stationary, that I’m heading somewhere. So when The Boyfriend asked if I wanted to go to Nueva Ecjia with him and his cousins, I immediately said yes.
Initially, I was told that we’d leave the night of July 15 (Friday). However, Ate Yna wouldn’t be able to make it so we settled on July 16 (Saturday), making our entire trip (to and from) less than 24hours. Of course, we didn’t back out. We’re hardcore like that. :P
I know that the journey would be about 4 to 5 hours from Manila, as I’d been there with the Faustinos twice before. Arred, my boyfriend, estimated that we’d arrive by midnight. We made Arjourn and Bunso comfortable by letting them bring pillows and allowing them to sleep if they wanted to. We left Cavite a little after 7pm, picked up Ate Yna from her workplace, and we were headed to N.Ecija by 8pm.
I wasn’t sleepy the entire ride and even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t allow myself to sleep. I was The Boyfriend’s storyteller, you see. I had to keep him company, as I always do. No complaints there, btw.
Arred had driven to N.Ecija multiple times before. He knows the road, he knows which roads are dangerous, truck-infested, and whatnot. Even I couldn’t believe our luck when we got lost. There was a moment when he looked at the road signs and establishments, and told me that he doesn’t recognize the area. I looked around and sure enough, I saw buildings that weren’t there when I went with them to N.Ecija. We were lost, but we went on. We stopped at a gas station, and it was there that we met a jeepney driver and his wife (I think). They led us to seemingly scary roads. Arred kept his distance just in case they weren’t good Samaritans after all. But they were. They led us to the right place, and we eventually found ourselves on a familiar street. That etched an hour or two into our target arrival time.
I find Canili, Nueva Ecija very peaceful. The weather is similar to Tagaytay’s or Baguio’s temp, or maybe somewhere in between. It depends, really. We slept, ate, had a bit of fun, went to visit their relatives, had more fun, went to (The Awesome) Pantabangan Dam, visited their grandpa’s tomb, and took off.
We were home before we knew it. Did I enjoy this crazy road trip? Heck yeah.
